Applied Behavior Analysis

is a methodology used to build socially appropriate behaviors and to reduce the occurrence of challenging behaviors. The methodology of ABA has empirical evidence to support effectiveness with addressing barriers of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  ABA services are rendered by Board Certified Behavior Analysis (BCBA). The BCBA has the option to provide services independently or by supervising qualified individuals. The qualified individuals include Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) or Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). During the initial phase of services, the BCBA will conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA). The FBA will systematically identify challenging behaviors, functions of challenging behaviors and barriers that may impact the person engaging in the specified challenging behaviors. After completing the FBA, the BCBA will develop a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).  The BIP is s set of procedures that are used to teach new appropriate behaviors and reactive procedures to address the occurrence of challenging behaviors. The BCBA will train the BIP to the parent/caregiver and any necessary individual that meets the individual receiving care.  The services may be rendered in the home or community setting (depending on the pay-source).
